A blockage in the engine water intake or a damaged pump impeller will result in a complete loss, or severe reduction in the volume of cooling water in the exhaust system. In this case, the temperature in the exhaust will rise much more quickly than the temperature of the engine. VETUS always recommends fitting an exhaust temperature alarm that will provide a visual and audible alarm when the temperature inside the exhaust hose or the muffler exceeds an acceptable level.
